Exploring To London From Watford By: Gaby_Halifax
Anyone who is not from London will probably find Watford, England, a town in the northwest, to be a bit odd. Watford is the marking point, some have said for civilization. In English the word Watford, which is the name of a town, is often heard used as a word which means the start of a neighborhood of unsophisticated people . This, of course, is the assumption of the sophisticated residents of London and those that live south of this area. There is a term commonly referred to as the Watford Gap, which is the euphemism for this imaginary line drawn at the heart of Watford. But, Watford does not fall within the low class community which it designates. Watford Gap is a common term to describe the less than appropriate individual who resides north of this city. The term dates back several hundred years and has become very common in London. What is interesting is that Watford is only 14 miles north of London and is called a commuter town. In fact, lots of people who have jobs in London actually live in Watford. It is so close to London that there are people who think of it as a bedroom community. Watford is only 5.6 miles at its widest spot.
London and Waterford are really not all that different, though London has a very different history. As in most areas of London, driving is also impossible in Watford. For the close proximity to London, one would assume the commute would be minimal. It is normally a 5 minute walk to the subway, or tube station, as it is called in London. There is then an hour wait to reach your destination as you stop at every station on the way into the city. A train ride is an alternative mode of transportation from Watford to London. A train takes a 30 minute walk to the station and then another 30 minute ride, as this train makes 2 stops on its way to London. Watford hotels hope that becoming more and more a commuter town, the English government will reconsider its transportation services from Watford to London.
The city of Watford came into existence in the beginning of the 19th century because a free school got put there. This school was to help the poor tally up their accounts and pay their bills. This eventually evolved into a boy's school and a girl's school. The London Orphan Asylum was run there in later years. Today, in the spot where the orphanage used to stand is a community of residences. The name of the road that runs through the neighborhood is Orphanage Road. Watford is essentially a quaint town on the outskirts of London with transport to the airports and the downtown London spots.
Watford Hotels is the third hotel comparison site marketed by Gaby Halifax, this time with her long time friend Mark Dulisse.
